As one of the
eco friendly straws,
biodegradable straws are becoming popular with businesses and customers. With the increasing awareness of environmental protection, many milk tea shops and coffee shops have replaced plastic straws with paper straws, but the experience of using paper straws has been disliked by many people. Are all environmentally friendly straws, why paper straws are not popular, while
biodegradable straws are popular?
The difference between biodegradable and paper straws
Paper straws are generally made of food-grade kraft paper or natural wood pulp, and some colorful paper straws are printed with soy ink. In the natural environment, paper straws can be completely degraded by microorganisms in nature within 3-4 months after being discarded, generating carbon dioxide (CO2) and water (H2O), which can directly enter the soil and become organic matter to be absorbed by plants without causing environmental pollution. Paper straws, however, have a drawback -- they tend to soften. When people drink, paper straws become soft and fall apart due to prolonged immersion in liquid, which makes for a bad experience for customers.
More environmentally friendly straws than paper straws are biodegradable straws, and Hyde's PLA biodegradable straws are made from polylactic acid and starch extracted from renewable plant sources such as corn. After microbial fermentation, extraction of lactic acid, and then through refining, dehydration oligomerization, high temperature cracking, polymerization and production of new polyester materials. The biodegradable straw has the basic characteristics of universal polymer material, which can be used for most synthetic plastics and can be widely used in a variety of industries.
Lactic acid, the monomer of the degradable straw, is a food additive and a biocompatible substance. Therefore, the degradable straw is a material with higher food contact safety, and the degradable straw has excellent biodegradability.
PLA degradable straws
The
degradable straw has various characteristics of PLA material and is a healthy and environmentally friendly straw. Mainly using corn, cassava and other plants as raw materials, through scientific and technological processing, processing and manufacturing, more than paper straw has the following advantages.
Cleanliness, hygiene, safety in use, to meet the requirements of developed consciousness.
With recycling value, recycling.
Can be degraded into organic fertilizer, return to nature, greatly protect the social ecological environment.
It should also be noted that PLA biodegradable products need to be carried out under certain conditions: 50%-60% humidity and 50-70C temperature. Under these conditions, it is possible for microorganisms to gradually break down PLA over a period of months or even longer. In other words, PLA degradable straw can be decomposed quickly only in a humid and high temperature environment with many microorganisms, and its degradation speed in the natural environment is lower than that of paper straw.
PLA degradable straw can be completely degraded by microorganisms in nature after use to generate carbon dioxide and water, which will not cause pollution to the environment and is a relatively friendly environmental protection material. Plastic has been completely abandoned due to environmental concerns, and the use of
eco friendly straws has become a trend. For
